School Closing Predictions and Other Fun Things

Snow on the ground, snow on the ground, look outside and see the snow on the ground!

With the snow still coming down, the roads are only getting worse. VDOT crews are working this minute trying to clear the main roads. VDOT is listing the primary roads as still in moderately dangerous conditions, which is the primary concern for cleanup crews. After those roads are done, then its on to secondary roads, then residential streets. The good news for students is this: even after all the roads are clear (which won’t be for a few days now) there will still be enough slush on the road to freeze overnight and keep us from going to school. We’re looking at lows in the twenties which means a student’s best friend: ice.

My best guess right now is that schools will definitely be closed on monday, most likely tuesday. Wednesday is a possibility, especially with some more wintry weather coming on tuesday. Sean will let you know more about that soon. Right now, wednesday is too far away to predict, so right now I’ll only predict we’re closed monday. This should be true for all major counties: Henrico, Chesterfield, Richmond City, Hanover, and Goochland. Points south are still questionable. There are links at the top of page to the major counties in central Richmond, as well as a master list of all closings in VA.

Updated weather and school closing predictions will be posted soon by either Sean or I. Stay tuned to the Sweather Blog for more info in the coming days.
